The only feature really missing from the BDP-S that I can see wanting is a multichannel audio output. At this point most people have a processor or receiver that can process HDMI audio, Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray Player those that need multichannel analog outputs will need to look elsewhere.
More Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray Player on all the picture modes, and the color space performance, can be found in the Bench Test section. Blu-ray titles looked as good as expected, with no issues or artifacts encountered at all. Load times were nice and fast, likely helped by the faster processor in the BDP-S, making those days of minute load times on some titles a distant memory.
One unfortunate title that arrived during testing was the Criterion Collection release of Being John Malkovich. A fantastic film is presented here with a transfer that leaves a lot to be desired.

- Sony BDP-S790 Overview
The images is somewhat soft, full of noise, not perfectly steady, and overall a general disappointment. It gave me a chance to try out the image adjustments available on the BDP-S for lower quality content and see what they could do.
Using the different noise reduction options there was a vast improvement in image noise in the opening scene compared to the Direct mode. There was a bit of fine detail being lost as well, though not as much as I expected. The transfer was still poor quality for a Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray Player disc, but the poor quality was less distracting than with the constant noise from the bad transfer.
Even using the most demanding test patterns I could put up, the noise reduction options did a fantastic job of distinguishing between actual compression noise and real content. As Ginormica is shown around her new top-secret abode, the sense of depth to the 3D image is deeply impressive, well and truly immersing the viewer in the action.
The BDP-S also does a fine job with standard-definition content. DVDs are presented in a detailed and resolute manner.
Internet content is perfectly watchable, too. Sound quality Used as part of a home cinema set-up, this player delivers a soundtrack as punchy as the picture. The emphasis here Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray Player on agility, although the Sony doesn't quite have the weight and authority of the Panasonic DMP-BDT we've tested recently, sounding a touch lean at times.
As for the connection panel, this is the only current Sony model to offer dual HDMI outputs, so you can send the signal to two displays at once or, with 3D content, use one output for video and one for audio which is helpful if Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray Player own an AV receiver that does not support 3D pass-through. The back panel also sports a composite video output, but not component video.
On the audio side, in addition to HDMI, you get optical and coaxial digital audio outputs and a stereo analog audio output. The player lacks multichannel analog audio outputs.
This player offers Skype compatibility, but you have to purchase the USB camera separately if you want to use the video conferencing function. It offers a greater amount of advanced picture adjustments; you can choose Sony BDP-S790 Blu-ray Player Direct, Bright Room, Theater Room, Auto, and two Custom modes.
