Kate Taylor VisitAuthor and cultural critic for the Globe & Mail will be leading a discussion on 'Table Top Intimacies' at an event run in partnership with OPL and Oakville Galleries. Kate will discuss her award winning novel 'Mme Proust and the Kosher Kitchen' and how it relates to the exhibit currently on show at Gairloch Gardens...What We Bring To The Table. The event will take place at Central Branch Auditorium on Thursday May 15th @ 7pm. Tickets cost $5 and are available at all branches. Make sure you get yours! Small Business Seminars 2008Introduction to Starting a Small Business October 8 6:30-8:30pm Central branch auditorium Cost: $20 Register: Phone Access Halton at 1-866-4HALTON This information session gives you a general overview of the things you will need to consider in making your plans, including financial considerations; registrations; regulations and licensing; market research; and business planning. Small Business Know-How Seminar Series Gain the "know-how" you need to start and run a successful small business. This series of seminars is for entrepreneurs and small business owners who are looking for practical tools and resources for starting and running a small business. June 5 - The Basics of Franchising (Glen Abbey Branch, 1415 Third Line) This seminar is designed to help individuals who are thinking about starting up a franchise. November 6 - Online Tools and Information for Small Business (repeat of May 8) (Glen Abbey Branch, 1415 Third Line) Participants are welcome to bring their own wireless laptops. Discover free online information sources, resources and tools to enable the startup, marketing or growth of your business. November 13 - Creating a Website (Central Branch, 120 Navy Street) This session will focus on the start-up issues of designing a site, choosing a web designer researching and planning content and maintaining your site. November 20 - eCommerce (Iroquois Ridge Branch, 1051 Glenashton Drive) This session will focus on selling online, identifying your target market, and determining the best ways to reach them. WATT NOT, WASTE NOT: Residents Encouraged to Conserve EnergyA program launched by the Town of Oakville and Oakville Public Library allows residents to borrow energy meters to test their home appliances for energy usage. Residents can borrow a meter from any of the Town's five libraries and return the meter to any branch free of charge. Meters can be picked up at any Oakville Public Library Branch.
